Bangkokians are always looking for events in the city. Sometimes going to a concert, eating in a restaurant and singing karaoke may get a little trite after a while. How about getting involved in something where you hone your skills and get a little competitive?
Tournament #1: Ultimate Frisbee
If you are looking for a fun, non-threatening game to play where you self-referee then Ultimate Frisbee is for you. It’s a game where you play Frisbee following the principles of games like football and basketball. Players have to pass on a disc which weighs about 175 grams. There are few rules that will be explained prior to the game. The most important key to this game is the non-contact factor. You get a foul every time you physically contact another player.
The field is located on Rama 9. Full information is available at the Bangkok Soidawz website. The term pick-up is used to refer to a casual game of Ultimate Frisbee. The pick-up is open to players of any skill level at the cost of 100 baht fee. Most pick-ups are notified through their websites. Most of the weeks the pick-ups take place between 3:30 to 6:30 PM.
Tournament #2: Chess Club
Bangkok Chess club is the ultimate place for chess lovers in the city. Chess players meet twice a week on Tuesday and Friday from 6: 30 pm to 11: 30 pm at The Roadhouse Barbecue Restaurant located at Rama IV while every Tuesday and on Fridays they meet at The Queen Victoria Pub located at Sukumvit Soi 23.
The entrance is free of charge and since these meetings are in a restaurant, you might as well order something to eat or drink. If you want to take your chess skills to a higher level, then you can apply for annual membership which will provide you entrance to championships around the city.
Tournament #3: Sunday’s 9-Ball Scotch Doubles
With 9 fts long Brunswick tables and lively atmosphere, Hustlers Bangkok located at the basement of Times Square Building on Sukumvit Soi 12, has been hosting 9- Ball Scotch Double tournament every Sunday. Because of its popularity with the local and international pool players, mid-week tournaments have been taking place more often these days.
