Flag Acts are laws that aim at defining the design of a nation’s flag.
The Thai Flag Act was signed into law in 1979 and was published in the Royal Thailand Gazette No. 96 Section 67 (special edition, page 1).
In Thai, it is known as พระราชบัญยัติธง พ.ศ. 2522. (The year 2522 refers to the Buddhist Era which is 543 years ahead of the Gregorian year.)
The Flag Act stipulates that the Flag of Thailand is:
1. rectangular in shape with 6 part width and 9 part length
2. divided into five stripes throughout the length of the flag
3. the middle stripe is 2 part wide, of deep blue colour
4. the white stripes are 1 part wide next to each side of the deep blue stripes
5. the red stripes are 1 part wide next to each side of the white stripes
According to the same law, the Thai National Flag shall also be called the Tri-Rong flag.
